Crappie Fishing Everywhere Else
Big LMB 4:45-6:40

Water is cold! We hit a cold front that pushed a lot of fish back deeper again. Conditions were totally flat so I opted to do one more Spring Jigging trip. Worked a 1/8 oz Maribou Jig for some crappie and a nice Largemouth Bass. Jigging Crappie can be the way to go when they are suspended over deeper water. I found these spring crappie in about fifteen feet and they were very lethargic. The fish marks were heavy at times but they were not feeding.

Lightly bouncing the jig on crappie schools seems to work better than an aggressive jigging motion in cold water. The largemouth bass were more reactionary and preferred hitting the jig on the drop as well.

The rod and reel set up in this video is a KastKing Sharky 2000 with 15lb KastKing braided line. The rod is a M action KastKing Kayak Phantom rod rated 8-15lb. Real light action set up for this cold water jigging.

I live lined shiners on a slip bobber and had a few knock downs but nothing substantial to hook up with. Ended up with 4 crappie, a few misses, and the largemouth bass on this trip. Not terrible but not lights out either. The crappie were excellent size on this trip.

Went down to the boat slips for about an hour and caught a few crappie. The bite is starting to pick back up after the lake has been flooded for a while.

Crappie and Bream fishing on Lake Hamilton Hot Springs, AR. I used a black and chartreuse straight tailed jig, combined with a rod and reel. I crappie fished around brush piles and did most of my bream fishing around wood docks.

Crappies love docks — especially during fall and winter. But how do you reach them when they’re tucked way up underneath? You have to “shoot” the dock, which involves skipping a small, soft-plastic jig deep underneath the dock. But floating docks present a special challenge. This multi-part video series covers all aspects of dock-shooting.

Part 2 – Tackle & Mechanics
You’ll need the right type of rod to effectively shoot docks, and reel, line and bait choices are also important. Part 2 of this series covers tackle selection and also reveals the mechanics of dock shooting — how to hold your rod, your bait and more.
