Catfish anglers are notorious for carrying lots of catfish rods on their boats. They want to keep them readily accessible, keep their catfish rigs from getting tangled, and most importantly keep their rods and reels in good condition.

The challenge of fishing from a boat is also making the best use of the space and keeping everything open and clear so you can move around freely when the takedown happens and you get a big catfish on the line.

I’ve always used upright fishing rod storage holders on my boats. I recently swapped boats and started fishing from a SeaArk ProCat 240 and wasn’t sure exactly where I wanted the upright rod storage so I wanted a temporary solution for storage and that temporary solution ended up becoming the long term storage solution and best option I’ve ever used.

In this weeks catfishing quick tip video from Catfish Edge I’ll walk you through the DIY Vertical Fishing Rod Rack, how I built it and some tips for building your own fishing rod holder for your catfish boat.

For more in depth information go to to the Catfish Edge website:

Vertical Fishing Rod Rack For Catfish Boats: DIY, Simple, Portable

This upright rod storage solution can be built based on the number of fishing rods you’ll need to carry on your boat. I’ve built the holder to store twelve fishing rods but it can easily be adjusted to hold six or eight catfish rods.

The base of the rod storage rack is a Swivel-Eze seat post that screws into the seat bases on a boat so the rod storage rack can be moved to different areas of the boat for storage.

The Chad Ferguson Signature Series Catfish Rod by Whisker Seeker Tackle is a cutting edge and innovative catfish rod built by catfish anglers for catfish anglers.

Hardcore catters know the right catfish rods can make or break a day of fishing. If you’ve ever gone “one on one” with a monster catfish you know there’s a fine line when it comes to control. They’re big, angry and powerful and wrong rod puts them in charge, not you.

Pulling monster blue catfish off the bottom, yanking massive flatheads out of timbered lairs in river bends and finesse fishing for channel catfish is all in a days work for me. Finding the balance of the right weight, strength and sensitivity in the perfect catfish rod is something I’ve never found (and I’ve spent a lot of time searching).

After fifteen years as a professional catfish guide I’d given up on finding the “perfect” catfish rod.

When I saw the innovative line of catfish tackle from Whisker Seeker Tackle I knew they were the company to work with to build the Chad Ferguson, Signature Series Rods.

We started with one goal, build a line of “perfect” catfish rods that’s like no other available and back it with an unprecedented warranty.

I spent a year testing and fine tuning every aspect of these rods in every situation possible. I put them through every abuse possible, pushing the limits to find a weakness.

Thousands of pounds of trophy blue catfish, dozens of monster flatheads and hundreds of channel catfish later, I sat down and agreed to put my name on it.

The first rod in the Chad Ferguson Signature Series is a Medium Heavy action rod built for a variety of catfishing techniques and situations. It’s truly a general purpose rod for “every” catfish angler.

Catching big cats, finesse fishing for smaller ones, drifting, trolling, tightlining or slinging stink bait, this rod can handle it all (plus it’ll turn heads with it’s killer looks).

It’s the only fishing rod worthy of carrying Chad Ferguson’s name and the Catfish Edge and Whisker Seeker brand, it’s truly a cutting edge catfishing rod.

[New] Abu Garcia Catfish Special Reels

Early this year Abu Garcia sent me some of their new special edition catfish reels for field testing. I’ve been using the reels ever since and putting them through the paces catching catfish.

They’ve shown up in the background of some of my videos on accident. I’ve had a ton of questions from people seeing them in my videos but couldn’t discuss the reels until Abu Garcia made their formal announcement.

They released the round reels to the public at iCast in July so I’m finally in a position where I can talk a bit more about these reels.

I had the opportunity to check out a number of their other new products at iCast (in addition to the catfish reels).

They’ve got some great products hitting the market soon that are all worthy of checking out (as usual). They’ve got an awesome new Revo Beast Musky Reel (I’m really hoping they follow up with a similar catfish reel next year) a catfish spinning reel combo and some slick apparel.

There’s two reels in the “Catfish Special” series, the 6500 C3 Catfish Special and 7000 Catfish Special.

In this weeks Catfishing Video from Catfish Edge, Chad Ferguson gives you a look at these two new special edition catfish reels from Abu Garcia.

For more in depth information on these reels check out the article at Catfish Edge
